Rachel very much likes working for the Blacksmith and over time has shared with him something of what was going on in her world (alien invasion) and how she fought, hinting a little at her more ruthless nature and her guilt about it without actually coming out and talking about it. She asked George about his past once, but did not press it when she realized it wasn't something he wanted to discuss.

She's eager to learn about the job, and finds that her mind is more at ease when she's doing hard labor. Occasionally she shares any baked goods with him that she gets from the bakery.
